This clinical anatomy atlas, in which every branch is named in English as well, is at the crossroads between medicine and rehabilitation. It is meant for medical doctors generalists and specialists of all fields as well as therapists that are trained to the somatosensory rehabilitation method.
It exclusively deals with aesthesiology, the science of touch. As we are more often, in clinical observations, confronted with axonal lesions (axonotmesis) than with transections (neurotmesis), the hypoaesthetic territories that have been mapped are partial. We have, therefore, defined the autonomous territory and the maximal territory of cutaneous distribution for every cutaneous branch.
This aesthesiology atlas is based on clinical experience: each chart is the superposition of ten to hundreds of prospective observations that we lead on 1140 patients. These observations are compared with literature.
The understanding of the territories delineating the cutaneous distribution of the nerves is of obvious clinical importance and is treated here through a unique atlas format that will be immensely useful to clinicians assessing patients with neurological disorders.
